There is a lot of information thrown at you in this form! Please make sure to read through all of it and double check that what you are submitting matches with all of the guidelines. Underneath this is general guidelines. Make sure to follow the specific guidelines for you specific submissions too!
Things to consider when writing/submitting an article:
1. Completed article must be original, well-written and adhere to a book-realted topic/interview.
2. Submit articles in Microsoft Word document format (.doc or .docx) only.
3. Submission should be between 100 and 2,000 words depending on the style.
4. Limit Profile articles to about 2,000 words.
5. Use single spacing after punctuation.
6. Regardless of submission style, all articles will post in the same format.
7. If images are included, submit in jpg, png, or gif format only.
Article title and author information:
1. Include an appropriate and informative title for the article.
2. Profile article title: “Meet (person interviewed)”
3. Capitalize only the first letter of each word in the title.
4. Include the author’s name, country of residence, and date of submission.
Language:
1. Write at a level appropriate for a high school-level audience.
2. Do not use profanity.
3. Avoid overly-biased or derogatory language.
4. Avoid slang.
Author Bio:
- Recommended length is 50-75 words.
- You can include 2-3 links in the author bio.
- Include a clear, closeup headshot of yourself, at least 100×100 pixels, JPG or PNG format.
- Include a preferred professional title to be displayed with your name i.e., “Ashley Smith, Programs Manager, Candid”. If you don’t want to include a title, let us know, and only your name will appear in the blog post and in your author profile.
Other tips:
- Accompanying image is optional (we’ll include one if you don’t). If you wish to provide an image to go with your blog post, it should be attributed (provide image source URL), at least 200×200 pixels, JPG or PNG format. If you submit a stock photo, please ensure it’s royalty-free and able to be shared and modified for marketing/ commercial purposes. Feel free to submit a picture that you took! We will make sure to give you credit :)
- Write in a friendly, conversational voice/tone that’s less formal and more approachable.
- Use short paragraphs, subheadings, and/or bullet lists to break up your article.
- Check your spelling and grammar!!
Submitting an article gives TBC the rights to publish and edit, if needed. The editorial team will review all submissions and make minor changes for readability, organization and style prior to publication. If significant edits are needed, the editor will send the revised article back to the author for approval. The staff editorial board will then review and must approve the article before publication. The date an article is published will be determined by the editor.
Please do not submit the same piece to multiple categories at the same time. All work must be previously unpublished. This includes to personal blogs and social media. Please only send one submission to a given section at a time; when we've responded with a decision, you are welcome to submit to that section again.
